How is your course different to any other Excel training course?

1) The course always refers to the real-life usage of Excel in the context of the Finance world. More specifically, the world according to Accountants and Analysts. So it does not simply teach functions & formulae without giving examples of where we find them of use in practice.
2) It is written and presented by The Excel Pro, a Chartered Accountant with 20 years expertise in the application of advanced Excel in UK Finance, rather than someone who has only been trained to teach theory.
3) Unlike several other courses out there, no time is allocated to functions or formulae or other technical areas which are rarely found being used in practice in UK Finance.
4) However, plenty of time is dedicated to other relevant areas for accountants and analysts who regularly use Excel, such as: Planning, I.T. issues, Reporting, Modelling, Data Cleansing, and Master Data Management.
5) A minimum 60% of the course time is dedicated to delegates working-through hands-on examples under the expert and personal supervision of The Excel Pro.

How will this course add-value to me or my business?

This question is best-answered by reviewing the Top 10 Course Benefits page.

Why shouldn't I just do an online Excel course?

There are some great tutorials available on the internet teaching Excel 'mechanics' - I myself took benefit from some of them for many years! However previous delegates themselves have commented on many occasions that nothing can compete with learning face-to-face from a seasoned professional. The fact that everything that is taught on this course comes with a particular financial context explained, they seem to find invaluable. Throughout the day I explain where particular skills and methods are more valuably applied, and in what scenario's other methods might be more practical. More importantly, I explain why. One of the main objectives of the day is to try and turn the delegate into an Excel superuser when they return to their workplace, and it is crystal-clear in my mind that that will not be achieved by simply teaching you some 'mechanics'.

The fact that I am personally on-hand to supervise and assist on exercises is also something that previous delegates have found extremely valuable. And don't forget that my course content is completely unique, so you will not find it available on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter: the Course manual issued to delegates on the day is currently unavailable anywhere else.

Do I need to have any previous experience with Excel?

Pre-requisite knowledge is probably somewhere between basic and intermediate - most accountants & analysts can't avoid at least some contact with Excel nowadays, so typically the delegate will already know a reasonable amount of Excel but will now be looking to learn a little more about some of its functions & formulae - you would probably require a more basic course if you weren't aware of the difference between a worksheet and a workbook for example - on the other hand the course is probably about right for you if you know about the SUM formula, but are perhaps less familiar with something like the SUBTOTAL or SUBSTITUTE formulae.

Does it matter if I don't know anything about Finance or am not an accountant or analyst?

Finance Professionals or Students is probably the most generic term to describe typical previous delegates. A large proportion of them have been accountants or analysts, but equally I have had Sales Administrators and HR Managers benefiting greatly from the course because their roles rely so heavily on the intelligent usage of Excel. Formal job titles of previous delegates have also included: Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Operations Accountant, Treasury Accountant, Project Accountant, Finance Analyst, Business Analyst, Retail Analyst, Commercial Analyst, Operations Analyst, Finance Director, Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Internal Auditor, External Auditor, Sales Analyst, Marketing Analyst, Marketing Manager, Financial Reporting Manager, Purchasing Manager, Credit Controller, etc.

Will I get to use and practise with Excel during the course?

Yes. All of the teaching venues come with modern computers pre-loaded with Excel so that each delegate can work-through the exercises hands-on for themselves. I have seen several other courses teaching Excel without allowing delegates hands-on experience for themselves - in my opinion this is almost completely worthless. 20 years experience in this field has taught me that hands-on experience trumps pure theory every time. This course is about delivering quality, so it is imperative that the delegate has access to Excel for themselves throughout its duration, and that is what we provide.

If I am delivering a private course, then I bring along laptops for you to learn on, all of which have Excel on them.

Will this course help me get a job as an accountant or analyst or some other role in Finance?

I have written and designed this course to be the 'Bible' course for accountants & analysts wanting to add more value in their roles through Excel. We are not aware of a similar course being offered elsewhere. I myself would have been desperate to attend this course if it had existed 20 years ago! Its practical emphasis is guaranteed to increase the attendee's chances of securing employment or promotion in this field - and in fact we have had several previous delegates commenting that this course has indeed helped them secure employment in the Finance field. (Read some of their comments alluding to this point here).

How many delegates will there be on the course?

Sometimes the class is made-up of just 2 or 3 delegates. The maximum class size is 5, which I find is perfect for a number of reasons, not least the amount of time I can then dedicate to each delegate personally.
